About the Henschel Hs 123A-1:
The Henschel Hs 123A-1 was a single-seat, single-engine biplane introduced in the mid-1930s. Although officially categorized as a fighter, it was mainly used in the ground-attack role. During the Spanish Civil War, five Hs 123As were assigned to VJ/88 of the Condor Legion. These aircraft proved highly effective during the battle of Málaga, showing remarkable durability and the ability to operate from rough airstrips. Their balance of speed and maneuverability allowed damaged aircraft to escape by steep dives. Three aircraft were lost in combat, while the remaining two were transferred to the Spanish Nationalist forces. In 1939, Spain purchased an additional twelve units, which remained in service until 1949.
