The set contains eight turned metal barrels of 356 mm (14 in) L45 Vickers type 41 calibre, corresponding to the main guns of the Japanese Kongō-class battleships Haruna, Hiei and Kirishima. The turned barrels replace the plastic parts from the model and improve the fidelity of the main artillery.

The ship model is not included in the set – it is a separate purchase.

Turned metal barrels – a quick model upgrade

Replacing the plastic barrels from the base kit with turned metal barrels is one of the simplest ways to raise the realism of a ship model. Metal barrels have even walls, crisp muzzles and correct proportions that are hard to achieve with injection-moulded parts. For assembly we suggest using cyanoacrylate glue, which provides a durable bond between metal and plastic.

About the ships – Haruna, Hiei, Kirishima:

Haruna, Hiei and Kirishima were Japanese Kongō-class battleships, rebuilt into fast battleships during the interwar period. Their main armament consisted of eight 356 mm guns arranged in four turrets.

These ships took an active part in operations in the Pacific during World War II, including escorting carrier groups and night battles. Their silhouettes were distinguished by the characteristic pagoda-type superstructure.
