Eduard 932011 – North American P-51B Mustang, 1:32 model kit (Royal Hybrid)

Eduard 932011 is a self-assembly model of the American North American P-51B Mustang fighter in 1:32 scale, in the Royal Hybrid edition. The Hybrid line combines classic plastic parts with 3D-printed parts, and the Royal Hybrid edition additionally enriches the kit with a range of extras, including an extensive book.

What's in the box:

  • Eduard plastic parts (five sprues)
  • 3D-printed parts (landing gear bays, cockpit, seat belts, landing gear legs, wheels, exhausts, machine gun barrels)
  • Pre-coloured photo-etched parts (small set)
  • Cockpit mask
  • OMASK plugs for the main landing gear bays
  • Pilot figure
  • Decals for 8 marking options
  • Book (over 100 pages) on the history and service of the P-51B/C by Jan Zdiarský
  • Illustrated assembly instructions

Please note: the 3D-printed parts are an integral part of the kit. They have no equivalent in the form of identical plastic parts, and the model cannot be built without them.

Model specifications:

  • Scale: 1:32
  • Product code: 932011
  • Manufacturer: Eduard
  • Assembled length: approx. 307 mm, wingspan: approx. 353 mm
  • Marking options: 8
  • Edition: Royal Hybrid
  • Difficulty: intermediate/advanced

Note: the set does not include glue, paints or modelling tools. The model is intended for self-assembly.

Assembly:

The model is built from plastic parts and integral 3D-printed parts (representing the cockpit, gear bays, legs, wheels, exhausts and gun barrels, among others). We recommend attaching the 3D-printed parts and pre-coloured photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue, and joining the remaining parts with plastic cement. The cockpit mask makes painting the canopy framing easier, and the OMASK plugs help mask the main gear bays.

We recommend applying the decals over a gloss coat, which limits the risk of decal silvering, and after drying sealing them with a matt or satin coat.

For painting we recommend the colours typical of US fighter aviation of the period (natural metal or olive camouflage); the instructions give detailed schemes for the 8 options. The finish is chosen to suit the selected scheme.

Required tools:

  • Modelling nippers for removing parts from the sprues
  • Modelling knife or scalpel
  • Files and sandpaper
  • Plastic cement (for the injection-moulded parts)
  • Cyanoacrylate glue (for photo-etched, resin and 3D-printed parts)
  • Precise modelling tweezers
  • Primer, brushes and modelling paints
  • Modelling wash to emphasise details

About the aircraft – North American P-51B Mustang:

The North American P-51 Mustang is an American single-seat long-range fighter, an aircraft that played an important role in Allied fighter operations over Europe. The P-51B version was a breakthrough: replacing the original Allison engine with the licence-built British Rolls-Royce Merlin (made in the USA as the Packard V-1650) significantly improved high-altitude performance.

Thanks to their long range and good performance, the B/C Mustangs began escorting Allied heavy bombers on deep raids into Germany, changing the course of the air war over Europe. The P-51B still had the classic framed "razorback" canopy, with the fuselage spine extending behind the cockpit.

Specifications (North American P-51B Mustang):

  • Length: approx. 9.83 m
  • Wingspan: approx. 11.28 m
  • Height: approx. 4.17 m
  • Crew: 1
  • Powerplant: Packard V-1650 Merlin inline engine, approx. 1,400 hp
  • Maximum speed: approx. 700 km/h
  • Armament: four 12.7 mm machine guns in the wings
