British MBT Challenger 1 Mk.3 – 1:35 scale plastic model by Trumpeter

The Trumpeter 09611 kit depicts the Challenger 1 Mk.3, the final and most advanced version of Britain’s first main battle tank to feature the revolutionary Chobham composite armor. Entering service in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Mk.3 variant was equipped with upgraded fire control systems, improved optics and enhanced protection, making it one of the most formidable MBTs of its era.

About the kit:

This detailed kit includes an accurately reproduced turret with full armament, composite armor plates and realistic hydro-pneumatic suspension. The 120 mm L11A5 rifled gun features thermal sleeve detailing and can be posed in elevation. Hatches can be built open or closed, and the model includes accessories and decals for several British Army schemes, including options from Operation Granby (Gulf War 1991). Excellent fit and precision molding make this kit suitable for experienced modelers.

About the Challenger 1 Mk.3:

The Challenger 1, developed by Vickers Defence Systems, was designed to replace the Chieftain tank and incorporated the new Chobham composite armor, offering superior protection. The Mk.3 upgrade included the TOGS (Thermal Observation and Gunnery System) night sight, improved stabilization and updated electronics. Powered by the 1,200 hp Rolls-Royce CV12 engine, the tank achieved speeds up to 56 km/h and served during the Gulf War, where it demonstrated high reliability and combat performance. It was later succeeded by the Challenger 2 in British service.
