Rye Field Model 2123 is a set of aircraft armament parts 3D-printed in resin, designed for the MiG-21MF kit by Rye Field Model (no. 6001) in 1:48 scale. The set contains the UB-16-57 UM unguided rocket pod and air-to-air missiles R-3S (NATO code: AA-2B Atoll B) and RS-2US (AA-1 Alkali) — armament characteristic of Soviet and Eastern European MiG-21MF operational use.

Parts 3D-printed in resin offer clearly higher precision in reproducing the delicate shapes of missiles and pod components than standard injection-moulded parts, where edge sharpness and panel depth are constrained by the technology. The set is dedicated specifically to the RFM 6001 kit.

3D-printed resin parts – precise detail unachievable by injection moulding

3D printing in resin allows the cylindrical bodies of missiles, their fins and pod components to be reproduced with geometric precision that injection moulding cannot achieve — particularly in terms of fin sharpness and panel definition. In 1:48 scale, air-to-air missiles, despite their small size, are visible elements that determine the authenticity of the aircraft's combat loadout.

Resin parts are attached using cyanoacrylate adhesive to the kit's underwing pylons. Priming the resin surface before painting is recommended. R-3S missiles were typically painted white with yellow or orange bands; UB-16-57 UM pods in olive drab or dark grey — archive photographs provide detailed reference for the specific configuration and operator.

The UB-16-57 UM unguided rocket pod (a 16-round pod for 57 mm rockets) was one of the primary air-to-ground weapons of the MiG-21 in all its variants. Carried on underwing pylons, it enabled effective engagement of ground targets in conditions where unguided rockets provided sufficient accuracy.

The RS-2US missile (AA-1 Alkali, factory designation K-5MS) is a Soviet radar-guided air-to-air missile used by early MiG-21 variants. The R-3S missile (AA-2 Atoll B, K-13) is an infrared-guided weapon based on a copy of the American AIM-9B Sidewinder, widely exported and operated by numerous Warsaw Pact countries and others. Both missiles are iconic elements of MiG-21MF combat configurations from the 1960s and 1970s.
