Plastic Model Kit of the Dassault Mirage 2000-5F Fighter of the Ukrainian Air Force in 1:48 Scale

Kinetic 48180 is a plastic model kit reproducing the Dassault Mirage 2000-5F fighter in the markings of the Ukrainian Air Force. The model is based on Kinetic’s Mirage 2000C/5F tooling, supplemented with new water-slide decals featuring Ukrainian insignia. The Mirage 2000-5F is an upgraded version of the Mirage 2000 with improved avionics and advanced weapons management systems, transferred to Ukraine by France.

Characteristic features of the Mirage 2000 reproduced in the kit include the tailless delta wing configuration, conical side-mounted air intakes, radar-equipped nose section, and DEFA 554 cannon installation. The kit includes the components required to accurately depict the 5F configuration with a cockpit fitted with multifunction displays.

Note: The kit does not include glue, paints, or modeling tools. The model requires assembly and painting.

Building the model:

The Kinetic Mirage 2000 tooling requires patience when fitting the outer air intake sections to the fuselage and careful masking of the canopy before painting. It is recommended to paint the cockpit, control stick, and ejection seat before joining the fuselage halves. The intake trunk interiors and landing gear bays should be painted white (RLM21 or similar shade).

Ukrainian Mirage 2000-5F aircraft retain the standard Armée de l'Air gray camouflage – light gray (for example Gunze C-308 Gris Bleu Clair FS35450) or a two-tone gray scheme, depending on the individual aircraft. Ukrainian insignia decals should be applied over a gloss-coated surface to avoid silvering. A satin varnish finish is recommended for the final coat.

About the aircraft – Dassault Mirage 2000-5F:

The Mirage 2000 is a French single-seat multirole fighter featuring a tailless delta wing configuration, developed by Dassault Aviation as the successor to the Mirage III. The prototype first flew on March 10, 1978, and the aircraft entered service with the French Armée de l'Air in 1984. The Mirage 2000-5F version resulted from the modernization of 37 Mirage 2000C aircraft to the 2000-5 standard, introducing new avionics, the RDY radar, and compatibility with MICA missiles. These upgraded aircraft entered operational service around the year 2000.

France decided to transfer Mirage 2000-5F fighters to Ukraine in 2024 as part of broader multinational military support efforts. The aircraft quickly became a symbol of Western involvement and began arriving at Ukrainian air bases during 2024/2025, significantly strengthening the operational capabilities of the Ukrainian Air Force.
