Description

Ammo Mig 6607 Solution Book 33 – painting German vehicles in the grey Dunkelgrau scheme

Ammo Mig 6607 is a practical guide from the Solution Book series (no. 33) that takes the modeller through painting and ageing early-WWII German armoured vehicles in the uniform grey Dunkelgrau (RAL 7021) scheme — the standard finish of the early war years. The guide was written by Mateusz Dziwisz.

It works step by step, basing each stage on a clear icon system and photographs. It shows how to apply the base colour and the dirt, dust and ageing effects, and the intensity of each effect can be freely adjusted to achieve any level of wear. Most of the techniques are optional.

What's inside

The guide covers, step by step, how to recreate the Dunkelgrau scheme and apply weathering effects — dirt, dust, chipping and fading — that convey an in-service look. Each stage is presented with an icon system and photographs, making the shown results easier to reproduce. The example model is the Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf.F2 & G in 1:35 (Border Models, ref. BT004), but the same techniques work for any vehicle in the Dunkelgrau scheme.

Who it's for

The Solution Book is an accessible guide for modellers at any level, from beginners to the experienced. It works while building a specific early-war German vehicle model, and as a collection of painting and weathering techniques for other projects.

About the subject – the Dunkelgrau (RAL 7021) scheme:

Dunkelgrau (RAL 7021), a dark grey introduced in the late 1930s, was the standard camouflage of German armoured vehicles in the early years of World War II. The uniform dark grey shade aided concealment in urban and industrial settings and suited mass production. The scheme was used on the Panzer I, II, III and IV tanks, the early Tiger, the Sd.Kfz. 222 and 223 reconnaissance vehicles, the Sd.Kfz. 251 half-tracks and self-propelled guns such as the StuG III. Depending on conditions, complementary colours were also used, including Dunkelbraun (RAL 7017), Grün (RAL 6002), Olivgrün (RAL 6003) and Sandgrau (RAL 7027), and white in winter.
