Description

Ammo Mig 8583 – Zimmerit Applicator Tools for German WWII AFVs

These AMMO tools are designed to help modelers realistically recreate the iconic Zimmerit textures applied to German armored vehicles during World War II. Between 1943 and 1944, Zimmerit was applied to AFVs to prevent magnetic mines from attaching to their surfaces. With this set, you can replicate the historical patterns easily, precisely, and with great realism in scale.

  • Set includes 9 applicator tools of various shapes and sizes
  • Teeth spacing scaled to match original Zimmerit patterns
  • Narrow tools for tight spaces, long tools for large surfaces
  • Made of durable photo-etched steel for long-term use
  • Allows reproduction of both straight-line and herringbone patterns

How to use:

Apply a thin, even layer of acrylic paste (e.g., A.MIG-2037 Zimmerit Paste) to the model surface – approx. 0.7 mm for 1/35 scale. Let it set for 3–5 minutes. Use the appropriate tool to drag across the surface and create the chosen pattern. For herringbone designs, alternate the tool direction to form the characteristic V-shape. Lightly moisten the tool with AMMO Odourless Enamel Thinner (A.MIG-2019) to prevent sticking. Clean the tool with water when necessary. Allow the Zimmerit to dry fully before painting (at least 1 hour).

Advantages:

  • Historically accurate Zimmerit textures
  • Easy to use and consistent results
  • Versatile – spacing of 0.5 mm and 0.7 mm for different vehicles
  • Durable design – tools retain shape after repeated use

This set is essential for any modeler aiming to add authenticity to German WWII tanks such as the Tiger I, Panther, or StuG III. For further insight into Zimmerit history and techniques, AMMO’s book ZIMMERIT: The Ultimate Modeling Guide (A.MIG-6311) is highly recommended.
