About the RDS-6c and RDS-27 weapons:

The RDS-6c was the first Soviet hydrogen bomb, detonated on August 12, 1953, with a yield of around 400 kilotons. It used a "layer cake" design combining fission and fusion materials. The RDS-27 followed in 1955 as an improved, aircraft-compatible weapon with a higher yield and better operational characteristics. These weapons were milestones in the Soviet nuclear program and symbolized strategic power during the Cold War.

Real bomb data:

  • Type: thermonuclear bomb
  • Yield: RDS-6c – approx. 400 kt; RDS-27 – up to 2 Mt
  • Length: approx. 3–4 m
  • Weight: approx. 1.5–2.5 tons
  • Delivery: strategic bombers (e.g., Tu-4, Tu-16)
