Description

Copper State Models German 810 x 125 mm Spoked Wheels for WWI aircraft in 1:32 scale

Copper State Models A32006 is a pair of spoked wheels reproducing the standard German WWI aircraft wheel measuring 810 x 125 mm (outer diameter x tyre width) with 40 spokes. The set lets you replace the simplified wheels found in many injection kits with crisply rendered hubs, spokes and tyres, raising the level of detail on a prominent, highly visible part of the running gear.

The parts are produced by 3D printing, a technology that captures the thin spokes and tyre texture that cannot be reproduced in an injection mould. The wheels suit many German biplanes and two-seaters in 1:32 that used wheels of this size range.

What's in the box:

  • Two 3D-printed spoked wheels, 810 x 125 mm (a set for one aircraft)

  • Scale: 1:32
  • Catalogue number: A32006
  • Manufacturer: Copper State Models
  • Intended for: German WWI aircraft in 1:32
  • Accessory type: spoked wheels (pair)
  • Material: 3D print (resin)

3D-printed spoked wheels - precise running-gear detail

Wheels are among the most visible parts of an aircraft model, yet difficult to render well in injection moulding, where thin spokes and a delicate hub quickly lose definition. These 3D-printed wheels keep that definition, capturing the spoke pattern, hub profile and tyre texture.

The parts are attached with cyanoacrylate glue. Before painting it is worth gently cleaning the surface of any remaining print-support marks. Airbrushing is recommended, treating the tyre and the metal part of the wheel separately. Bare, uncovered spoked wheels work especially well on models with exposed wheels, on damaged machines and in post-war schemes.

About German WWI aircraft wheels:

German military aviation in the First World War used standardised spoked wheels in fixed ranges of diameters and tyre widths. The 810 x 125 mm wheel was one of the larger sizes used on heavier two-seaters and reconnaissance/bomber types. The dimensions and construction of these wheels were set out in German military aviation standardisation documents from the latter part of the war.

In service the spoked wheels were usually faced with doped linen discs forming a smooth cover, which is why the spokes are not visible in many in-service photographs. Exposed spoked wheels appeared with the covers removed, on damaged machines and in the post-war period, which also makes this set useful for dioramas and unusual finishes.

Original specifications:

  • Outer diameter: 810 mm
  • Tyre width: 125 mm
  • Number of spokes: 40
  • Application: German WWI aircraft
