Description

Copper State Models Rear Double Treugolnik Herringbone Tires for the Mgebrov-R armoured car in 1:35 scale

Copper State Models A35069 is a 3D-printed set of rear dual tyres with the herringbone tread popularly called "elka", in the style of period Russian Treugolnik rubber, matched to the Copper State Models Mgebrov-R armoured car kit in 1:35 scale.

The dual-wheel arrangement on the rear axle spread the weight of the heavy armoured vehicle and improved traction in difficult terrain. The set lets you replace the base-kit rear tyres with parts featuring a sharp, deep tread.

3D-printed Treugolnik tyres - realistic tread of period Russian rubber

Tyres are among the most visible parts of an armoured car, yet difficult to render well in injection moulding - a shallow, simplified tread quickly betrays the model's scale. 3D printing achieves a sharp, deep tread pattern and legible sidewall lettering and markings. The Treugolnik brand (Russian for "Triangle") was one of the leading Russian tyre makers during the First World War, and the distinctive herringbone tread was popularly known as "elka" (little fir tree).

The parts are attached with cyanoacrylate glue; before painting it is worth gently cleaning the surface of any print-support marks. A matt rubber finish is recommended, optionally with light pigment soiling for a dusty look consistent with the rest of the vehicle.

About the vehicle - the Mgebrov-R armoured car:

The Mgebrov-R (Izhorsky Mgebrov-Renault) is a Russian armoured car of the First World War, designed under Staff Captain Vladimir Mgebrov and built on a French Renault chassis, with armour fitted at the Izhorsky Plant. Its defining feature was the heavily sloped armour plating of the front section - one of the early applications of sloped armour, giving better ballistic protection with less plate thickness and weight.

The vehicle was operated by a crew of four (driver, commander and two gunners) and was armed with machine guns. The Mgebrov-R was built in small numbers and used mainly on the Eastern Front for reconnaissance and infantry support. Some vehicles were still being rebuilt during the 1917 Revolution. Despite the limited production, the design remains an important example of the early development of Russian armour.

Original specifications (Mgebrov-R):
