Description

Eduard 481183 Photo-etched set – landing flaps for the Fw 190A-8 (Hobby Boss) in 1:48 scale

Eduard 481183 is a photo-etched fret for the Fw 190A-8 by Hobby Boss in 1:48 scale. It lets you reproduce the landing flaps in the lowered position, with a thin, multi-layer structure unavailable in injection moulding.

What's in the box:

  • Photo-etched fret (landing flaps)
  • Illustrated assembly instructions

Set specifications:

  • Scale: 1:48
  • Catalogue no.: 481183
  • Manufacturer: Eduard
  • Dedicated kit: Fw 190A-8 (Hobby Boss kit)
  • Type: photo-etched parts (landing flaps)
  • Material: photo-etched parts

Photo-etched parts – landing flaps in the lowered position

The set contains photo-etched parts reproducing the landing flaps together with their internal structure. It lets you replace the simplified plastic parts and show the flaps deployed, with the thin, multi-layer construction visible — something impossible to achieve with injection moulding.

The photo-etched parts are bent and glued with cyanoacrylate adhesive. Annealing the fret over a flame beforehand is recommended for easier forming, as is careful fitting of the parts to the wing edge. The result is far subtler and more realistic flap detail.

About the aircraft – Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-8:

The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was one of the most important German fighters of the Second World War, designed by Kurt Tank's team. Unlike the inline-engined Bf 109, it was powered by a powerful BMW 801 radial, giving the aircraft excellent performance at low and medium altitudes, a high roll rate and a rugged airframe.

The A-8 version of 1944 was the most numerously produced variant of the entire "Anton" family. It received an additional fuel tank or a boost installation (MW-50/GM-1), reinforced armament and the ability to carry various field-conversion kits (Rüstsätze). The Fw 190A-8 fought both in the Defence of the Reich against Allied bomber raids and on the Eastern Front as a fighter and ground-attack aircraft.

Original specifications (Fw 190A-8):

  • Length: approx. 9.0 m
  • Wingspan: approx. 10.5 m
  • Crew: 1
  • Powerplant: BMW 801D-2 radial engine, approx. 1,700 hp
  • Maximum speed: approx. 655 km/h
  • Service ceiling: approx. 11,400 m
  • Armament: 2 × 13 mm machine guns and 4 × 20 mm cannon (typical)
