Wing gun bays – 3D printing with openable panels

The set contains the wing gun bays produced by direct 3D printing, intended for display with the covers open. They reproduce the machine guns, ammunition-belt guides and the internal wing structure with detail unavailable in injection moulding.

Photo-etched parts complete the set. The elements are fitted with cyanoacrylate adhesive. Open gun bays are a striking way to show the "inside" of the wing and add variety to the model's presentation.

About the aircraft – North American P-51B Mustang:

The North American P-51 Mustang is one of the most famous fighters of the Second World War. The breakthrough came from mating an aerodynamically refined airframe with the British Rolls-Royce Merlin engine (built under licence in the USA by Packard as the V-1650), which gave the aircraft outstanding high-altitude performance.

The P-51B version (and the sister P-51C from the Dallas plant) was the first Merlin-engined variant, with the distinctive framed "birdcage" canopy, later often replaced by the sliding Malcolm Hood. It was Mustangs of this generation that began escorting the heavy bombers of the 8th Air Force on deep raids over Germany, radically changing the course of the air war over Europe.
