About the aircraft – Curtiss P-40 Warhawk:

The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk is an American World War II fighter powered by an inline Allison engine. The P-40K, built in 1942, received the more powerful Allison V-1710-73 and a strengthened structure; some aircraft had a lengthened fuselage for better directional stability.

The P-40 became famous in the colours of the 'Flying Tigers' (AVG) in China and fought on many fronts – from the Pacific to North Africa and the Eastern Front. Though outclassed at high altitude, it was rugged and effective at low and medium levels.

Original specifications (Curtiss P-40K):

  • Length: approx. 9.7 m
  • Wingspan: approx. 11.4 m
  • Powerplant: Allison V-1710-73 inline engine, approx. 1,325 hp
  • Maximum speed: approx. 580 km/h
  • Armament: 6 x 12.7 mm machine guns
  • Crew: 1
