Undercarriage legs – high-detail 3D printing

The set contains main undercarriage legs produced by direct 3D printing, replacing the plastic parts. 3D printing allows faithful reproduction of the fine leg details — lines, valves and mechanism elements — with a sharpness unavailable in injection moulding.

The elements are fitted with cyanoacrylate adhesive. Precisely reproduced legs are a particularly visible detail on a model displayed with the undercarriage extended.

About the aircraft – Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9:

The Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9, known as the "Dora" or "Langnasen-Dora" (long-nosed Dora), was a development of the Fw 190 series powered by an inline Junkers Jumo 213A engine instead of the BMW 801 radial. The lengthened nose and redesigned rear fuselage substantially improved performance at higher altitudes, making the aircraft one of the best German piston fighters of the late war.

Entering service in the autumn of 1944, the D-9 fought in the Defence of the Reich and covered the airfields from which the Me 262 jets operated. It combined high speed, good handling and heavy armament, although its effectiveness was limited by fuel shortages and a lack of experienced pilots in the closing period of the Third Reich.
