About the aircraft – Grumman TBF-1C Avenger:

The Grumman TBF Avenger is an American carrier-based torpedo bomber of World War II and one of the most important US Navy aircraft. Heavy and rugged, it carried a torpedo or bombs in an internal bomb bay and featured a powered defensive turret.

The TBF-1C received heavier gun armament – wing-mounted cannons – and provisions for external fuel tanks. Avengers played a key role in the Pacific war, including anti-shipping strikes against the Japanese fleet.
