  • Dedicated kit: C-46 Commando from Williams Brothers

  • Material: yellow Kabuki masking paper, machine-cut

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Curtiss C-46 Commando:

The Curtiss C-46 Commando was a twin-engine transport developed from the CW-20 airliner project and entering U.S. Army service in 1942. The all-metal low-wing aircraft, with its distinctive double-bubble fuselage cross-section, was powered by two Pratt & Whitney Double Wasp radial engines. Larger and heavier than the C-47, it offered greater payload and better high-altitude performance but was more demanding to operate.

It gained its greatest fame in the Asian theatre, carrying supplies from India to China over the Himalayas along the so-called Hump route, thanks to its good high-altitude qualities. About 3,180 examples were built in several variants. After the war the aircraft passed to civil and cargo operators in many countries, and some served for many years as freighters.

Original specifications (Curtiss C-46 Commando):

  • Length: 23.27 m
  • Wingspan: 32.94 m
  • Height: 6.63 m
  • Takeoff weight: approx. 25,400 kg
  • Crew: 4
  • Powerplant: 2 × Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp, 2,000 hp each
  • Max speed: approx. 435 km/h
  • Ceiling: approx. 6,400 m
  • Range: approx. 1,900 km
  • Payload: approx. 4,500 kg or 40 troops
  • Production: approx. 3,180 (1942–1945)
