Marking masks – an alternative to decals

This set contains masks for reproducing national insignia by painting them instead of applying decals. Painted markings sit directly on the paint layer, so there is no visible carrier film edge and no risk of decal silvering, which can be an issue when applying decals over matt surfaces.

The masks are die-cut from yellow Kabuki masking paper. The recommended method is to transfer the mask onto the model, press the edges down, apply a thin coat of paint with an airbrush and remove the mask once dry. The surface should be clean, dry and fully cured.

About the aircraft – B-26 Marauder:

The Martin B-26 Marauder is a twin-engine medium bomber designed at the turn of the 1930s and 1940s. It was notable for its cigar-shaped fuselage and relatively small, highly loaded wing, giving high speed but also a high landing speed. It was powered by two Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engines. The aircraft was initially considered demanding to fly, which was improved over time, partly by increasing the wingspan.

The B-26 was used mainly in Europe and the Mediterranean as a medium-altitude bomber, operating in formations over tactical targets. After design and training improvements it achieved one of the lowest loss rates among American bombers in Europe. Its defensive armament was up to eleven 12.7 mm machine guns. About 5,000 aircraft were built.

Original specifications (B-26 Marauder):

  • Crew: 7
  • Length: 17.1 m
  • Wingspan: 21.6 m (later versions)
  • Height: 6.2 m
  • Empty weight: approx. 11,000 kg
  • Max take-off weight: approx. 17,300 kg
  • Powerplant: 2 x Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radials, approx. 1,900 hp each
  • Max speed: approx. 460 km/h
  • Ceiling: 6,400 m
  • Range: approx. 1,800 km
  • Armament: up to 11 x 12.7 mm machine guns; up to approx. 1,800 kg of bombs
  • Production: approx. 5,000 aircraft (1941-1945)
