Eduard EX317 is a set of self-adhesive 1:48 masks for painting the canopy framing and other glazing, and the wheel hubs, tailored to the Bf 109E model from Airfix. The masks are die-cut from yellow Kabuki masking paper, giving sharp edges without hand masking with tape. The base kit is not included.

What's in the box:

  • Sheet of self-adhesive masks made of yellow Kabuki masking paper, die-cut for the canopy and other glazing and for the wheel hubs
  • Mask placement instructions

Set specifications:

  • Scale: 1:48
  • Catalogue number: EX317
  • Manufacturer: Eduard
  • Dedicated kit: Bf 109E from Airfix
  • Accessory type: canopy painting masks
  • Material: yellow Kabuki masking paper, machine-cut

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Messerschmitt Bf 109E:

The Messerschmitt Bf 109E, known as the Emil, is a version of the German single-seat fighter from the early Second World War. It was a slender, all-metal low-wing aircraft with narrow-track retractable landing gear and automatic leading-edge slots. Compared with earlier versions, the Bf 109E received the more powerful Daimler-Benz DB 601 engine with direct fuel injection and radiators mounted under the wings.

The Bf 109E was the Luftwaffe's main fighter in the 1939-1940 campaigns, including the Battle of Britain, where it faced British Spitfires and Hurricanes. Its armament was usually two 7.92 mm machine guns above the engine and two 20 mm cannon in the wings, though the configuration varied between sub-versions. The Emil formed the basis for further development of the Bf 109 family.

Original specifications (Messerschmitt Bf 109E):

  • Crew: 1
  • Length: 8.6 m
  • Wingspan: 9.9 m
  • Height: 2.6 m
  • Empty weight: approx. 2,010 kg
  • Take-off weight: approx. 2,600 kg
  • Powerplant: 1 x Daimler-Benz DB 601A inline engine, approx. 1,100 hp
  • Max speed: approx. 560 km/h
  • Ceiling: 10,500 m
  • Range: approx. 660 km
  • Armament: 2 x 7.92 mm machine guns, 2 x 20 mm MG FF cannon (typical for E-3/E-4)
  • Production: approx. 4,000 aircraft of the E series (1939-1941)
