Description

Eduard EX795 mask set – canopy painting masks for the Me 163B Komet model (GasPatch Models) in 1:48 scale

Eduard EX795 is a set of self-adhesive 1:48 masks for painting the canopy framing and other glazing, and the wheel hubs, tailored to the Me 163B Komet model from GasPatch Models. The masks are die-cut from yellow Kabuki masking paper, giving sharp edges without hand masking with tape. The base kit is not included. The TFace version includes masks for both the exterior and interior of the glazing.

What's in the box:

  • Sheet of self-adhesive masks made of yellow Kabuki masking paper in the TFace version – separate masks for the exterior and interior of the glazing, plus wheel hub masks
  • Mask placement instructions

Set specifications:

  • Scale: 1:48
  • Catalogue number: EX795
  • Manufacturer: Eduard
  • Dedicated kit: Me 163B Komet from GasPatch Models
  • Accessory type: canopy painting masks (TFace version)
  • Material: yellow Kabuki masking paper, machine-cut

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Messerschmitt Me 163B Komet:

The Me 163B Komet was a German rocket-powered interceptor developed from the design work of Alexander Lippisch. The tailless mid-wing aircraft took off from a jettisonable dolly and landed on a retractable skid. Its bipropellant rocket motor provided a short but violent climb toward bomber formations.

Introduced in 1944, it offered an exceptional rate of climb, but the brief motor burn time limited its operational reach. The T-Stoff and C-Stoff propellants were hazardous to handle and caused numerous accidents. About 370 examples were built, and their effect on the course of the fighting remained limited.

Original specifications (Messerschmitt Me 163B Komet):

  • Length: 5.7 m
  • Wingspan: 9.3 m
  • Height: 2.8 m
  • Takeoff weight: 4310 kg
  • Crew: 1
  • Powerplant: Walter HWK 109-509A rocket motor, up to 16.7 kN thrust
  • Max speed: 960 km/h
  • Ceiling: 12000 m
  • Range (powered flight time): approx. 7.5 min
  • Armament: 2 x 30 mm MK 108 cannon
  • Production: approx. 370 built, 1944-1945
