  • Dedicated kit: F-104S Starfighter from Kinetic
  • Accessory type: canopy painting masks
  • Material: yellow Kabuki masking paper, machine-cut

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Lockheed F-104 Starfighter:

The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter was an American single-engine supersonic fighter with exceptionally thin, short straight wings and a slender fuselage, designed with emphasis on top speed and rate of climb. The design drew on experience from the Korean War as a lightweight air-superiority fighter. Its distinctive wings had edges so sharp they required guards on the ground.

The Starfighter served with the air force of the United States and then with numerous NATO and other allied nations, where it acted as a fighter, fighter-bomber and reconnaissance aircraft. It was built under licence in Europe and Japan. Despite its high performance, it was demanding to fly. More than 2500 examples were built.

Original specifications (Lockheed F-104 Starfighter):

  • Length: 16.7 m
  • Wingspan: 6.7 m
  • Height: 4.1 m
  • Empty weight: 6350 kg
  • Take-off weight: 13,170 kg
  • Crew: 1
  • Powerplant: General Electric J79 turbojet, approx. 70 kN
  • Max speed: 2137 km/h
  • Ceiling: 15,000 m
  • Range: 1250 km
  • Armament: 1x 20 mm cannon, AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles, external stores; production from 1958, over 2500 units
