Description

Eduard EX837 mask set – canopy painting masks for the SR-71A Blackbird model (Revell) in 1:48 scale

Eduard EX837 is a set of self-adhesive 1:48 masks for painting the canopy framing and other glazing, and the wheel hubs, tailored to the SR-71A Blackbird model from Revell. The masks are die-cut from yellow Kabuki masking paper, giving sharp edges without hand masking with tape. The base kit is not included. The TFace version includes masks for both the exterior and interior of the glazing.

What's in the box:

  • Sheet of self-adhesive masks made of yellow Kabuki masking paper in the TFace version – separate masks for the exterior and interior of the glazing, plus wheel hub masks
  • Mask placement instructions

Set specifications:

  • Scale: 1:48
  • Catalogue number: EX837
  • Manufacturer: Eduard
  • Dedicated kit: SR-71A Blackbird from Revell
  • Accessory type: canopy painting masks (TFace version)
  • Material: yellow Kabuki masking paper, machine-cut

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird:

The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird is an American long-range strategic reconnaissance aircraft, first flown in 1964 and designed by the Skunk Works team. Capable of flight at more than three times the speed of sound, it used a slender fuselage, delta wings and distinctive leading-edge chines. Power came from two turbo-ramjet engines.

The Blackbird carried out high-altitude reconnaissance, relying on speed and altitude rather than defensive armament. Its structure was made largely of titanium to withstand the high temperatures of supersonic flight. The aircraft served with the USAF from the 1960s to the 1990s, setting records for speed and altitude.

Original specifications (Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird):

  • Length: 32.7 m
  • Wingspan: 16.9 m
  • Height: 5.6 m
  • Empty weight: approx. 30,600 kg
  • Max take-off weight: approx. 78,000 kg
  • Crew: 2
  • Powerplant: 2 Pratt & Whitney J58 turbo-ramjets, approx. 145 kN each
  • Max speed: approx. 3500 km/h (Mach 3.3)
  • Ceiling: approx. 25,900 m
  • Range: approx. 5400 km
  • Production: 1964-1968 (32 built)
