Eduard EX952 is a set of self-adhesive 1:48 masks for painting the canopy framing and other glazing, and the wheel hubs, tailored to the Tempest Mk.II model from Eduard. Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Hawker Tempest (Mk.V / Mk.II):

The Hawker Tempest was a British single-seat fighter of the Second World War, developed from the Typhoon. It received a new, thinner wing of elliptical planform, which improved performance at high altitude and speed. A robust low-wing monoplane, it entered service in 1944 and was notable for its high speed at low altitude.

The most numerous Mk.V version was powered by a Napier Sabre inline engine and became known for destroying V-1 flying bombs and attacking ground targets in the final phase of the war. The Mk.II variant received a Bristol Centaurus radial engine and entered service after the end of the fighting in Europe. The main difference between the versions is the type of powerplant and the shape of the engine cowling.

Original specifications (Hawker Tempest (Mk.V / Mk.II)):

  • Length: 10.26 m (Mk.V)
  • Wingspan: 12.50 m
  • Height: 4.90 m
  • Max. take-off weight: approx. 6190 kg
  • Crew: 1
  • Powerplant: 1 Napier Sabre II inline engine approx. 1685 kW (2260 hp) (Mk.V) or Bristol Centaurus radial (Mk.II)
  • Max. speed: approx. 700 km/h
  • Ceiling: approx. 11,100 m
  • Range: approx. 1190 km
  • Armament: 4x 20 mm Hispano cannon; up to 900 kg of bombs or 8 unguided rockets
