Eduard EX958 is a set of self-adhesive 1:48 masks for painting the canopy framing and other glazing, and the wheel hubs, tailored to the MiG-17F model from AMMO by Mig Jimenez. The masks are die-cut from yellow Kabuki masking paper, giving sharp edges without hand masking with tape. The base kit is not included. The TFace version includes masks for both the exterior and interior of the glazing.

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17:

The MiG-17 was a development of the MiG-15 designed to improve transonic handling, first flown in 1950. It received a new, thinner wing with greater sweep and a revised planform, along with a longer fuselage. Early versions used the VK-1 engine, while the MiG-17F variant received the afterburning VK-1F. Radar-equipped interceptor versions (MiG-17P, PF) and missile-armed variants (PFU) were also produced.

The aircraft entered service in the mid-1950s and was widely exported and licence-built in China (J-5), Poland (Lim-5, Lim-6) and Czechoslovakia (S-104). Used in combat in Vietnam, the Middle East and Africa, among others, it remained dangerous in manoeuvring combat despite subsonic speed, thanks to its agility and heavy cannon armament. It served in many states into the 1980s.
