About the Mitsubishi A7M Reppu:
The Mitsubishi A7M Reppu (“Sam” in Allied code) was designed by Jiro Horikoshi as a replacement for the A6M Zero. The A7M1 prototype was powered by the Mitsubishi Ha-43 engine producing 2000 hp, but its performance was limited. Only later variants (A7M2) showed the full potential of the design, with capabilities to rival Allied fighters. However, due to wartime setbacks, only a handful of prototypes were built before the end of World War II.
Technical data of the original (A7M1):
- Length: approx. 11.0 m
- Wingspan: approx. 14.0 m
- Powerplant: Mitsubishi Ha-43 engine, 2000 hp
- Maximum speed: approx. 574 km/h
- Armament: 2 × 7.7 mm Type 97 MG, 2 × 20 mm Type 99 cannons
