The Fine Molds FC03 kit represents the Japanese carrier-based fighter Mitsubishi A7M2 Reppu (Allied code name: “Sam”). Developed as the successor to the legendary A6M Zero, the A7M2 featured a modern design and powerful performance intended to regain Japan’s air superiority in the later stages of World War II. Although the war ended before the aircraft could enter mass production, it remains one of the most interesting Japanese fighter projects of the era.

The Mitsubishi A7M Reppu (“Strong Gale”) was designed as the successor to the famous A6M Zero for the Imperial Japanese Navy’s carriers. The A7M2 Model 11 was powered by the Mitsubishi Ha-43 engine producing over 2,000 hp, giving it a top speed of over 600 km/h. Armed with four 20 mm cannons and superior maneuverability compared to the Zero, the Reppu had the potential to be a formidable fighter. However, due to industrial disruptions and the end of the war, it never reached full production.
