Description

Plastic model kit of the Japanese Isuzu Bellett 1600GTR car (early version, custom variant) in 1:24 scale

Hasegawa 20802 is a kit for self-assembly representing the Japanese Isuzu Bellett 1600GTR sports car in its early version. The Bellett GTR of the late 1960s and early 1970s was one of the first Japanese cars to carry the “GTR” badge and stood out for its sporting character and good performance for its era.

The model is based on a new mould and comes in a custom variant supplemented with additional styling parts (including custom-style wheels). It is a curbside kit with a detailed interior, underbody and suspension.

What's in the box:

  • Plastic sprues with body and interior parts
  • Clear parts (windows, lenses)
  • Chrome-plated parts
  • Additional custom parts (including wheels)
  • Rubber tyres
  • Window masks
  • Waterslide decal sheet (model markings, plates)
  • Illustrated assembly instructions

Specifications:

  • Scale: 1:24
  • Catalogue number: 20802
  • Manufacturer: Hasegawa
  • Assembled length: approx. 166 mm
  • Difficulty level: intermediate

Note: The kit does not include glue, paints or modelling tools. The model is intended for self-assembly.

Assembly:

The model is recommended for modellers with some experience. Most attention is needed for careful preparation and painting of the body, as it determines the final result. The interior and underbody are best painted before final assembly.

The body colour can be chosen freely or as suggested in the instructions. Factory chrome-plated parts (such as bumpers, trim and wheels) can be left in their original finish, with the sprue-gate edges carefully cleaned up, or – for a more realistic effect – airbrushed with dedicated chrome-like paints. The body is usually finished with a clear coat for gloss, and decals are best applied over a glossy surface to avoid decal silvering.

Tools required:

  • Modelling nippers for removing parts from the sprues
  • Modelling knife or scalpel
  • Files and sandpaper for cleaning up sprue-gate marks
  • Plastic cement
  • Brushes in various sizes
  • Modelling paints (acrylic, enamel or automotive lacquers)
  • Clear coat for finishing the body
  • A wash to bring out the detail

About the car – Isuzu Bellett 1600GTR:

The Isuzu Bellett is a Japanese compact car produced from the 1960s. Its most sporting variant was the 1600GTR – one of the first Japanese cars to be given the “GTR” badge.

The GTR version was powered by a 1.6-litre twin-cam engine, and the car stood out for its good performance and sporting handling for its era. The Bellett GTR took part in Japanese racing, building the Isuzu marque's legend among motoring enthusiasts.

The early version corresponds to the first examples of the model. The Hasegawa model allows this classic Japanese car to be reproduced in a custom variant.

Original car specifications (Isuzu Bellett 1600GTR):

  • Layout: two-door sports car, rear-wheel drive
  • Engine: twin-cam inline-four of approx. 1.6 litres
  • Seats: 4
  • Production period: 1960s and 1970s
  • Character: sporting compact car

About the manufacturer – Hasegawa:

Hasegawa is a Japanese manufacturer of model kits based in Shizuoka, a region regarded as the centre of the Japanese model industry. The company has operated since 1941; it began with wooden products and from the 1960s focused on plastic models. Alongside its extensive aircraft range, the brand develops a large 1:24 car series covering motoring classics, sports cars and rally and racing machines. Hasegawa models are valued for their accurate shapes, finely reproduced panel lines and good parts fit. The manufacturer regularly releases limited editions of established moulds with new decal sheets and additional parts that reproduce specific versions and liveries. This lets modellers build many variants of the same car. Hasegawa remains one of the most recognisable model brands in the world and is available in many countries.
