Description

Plastic model kit of the racing Nissan Skyline RS Turbo (DR30) “1986 JTC Champion” car in 1:24 scale

Hasegawa 20805 is a kit for self-assembly representing the racing version of the Nissan Skyline RS Turbo (DR30) that won the title in the 1986 season of the Japanese touring car series (All Japan Touring Car Championship). The car is characterised by a stark, angular front end, which earned it the nickname “iron mask”.

The kit includes numerous new racing parts reproducing the car's competition preparation, along with a new decal sheet carrying the winning NISMO team livery.

What's in the box:

  • Plastic sprues with body and interior parts
  • Clear parts (windows, lenses)
  • New racing parts: boot lid, dashboard, bucket seats, roll cage, steering wheel, exhaust system, fuel tank, brake discs and wheels
  • Rubber tyres
  • Window masks
  • Waterslide decal sheet: NISMO team car, no. “23”, 1986 JTC champion (drivers Takao Wada and Aguri Suzuki)
  • Illustrated assembly instructions

Specifications:

  • Scale: 1:24
  • Catalogue number: 20805
  • Manufacturer: Hasegawa
  • Assembled length: approx. 185 mm
  • Difficulty level: intermediate

Note: The kit does not include glue, paints or modelling tools. The model is intended for self-assembly.

Assembly:

The model is recommended for modellers with some experience, partly because of the detailed interior with its roll cage. The interior is best painted and assembled before the body is closed. The heart of this kit is the faithful reproduction of the racing livery, carried by an extensive decal sheet.

The colours and marking layout are given in the instructions. The body is usually finished with a clear coat for gloss, and the numerous decals are best applied over a glossy surface to avoid decal silvering.

Tools required:

  • Modelling nippers for removing parts from the sprues
  • Modelling knife or scalpel
  • Files and sandpaper for cleaning up sprue-gate marks
  • Plastic cement
  • Brushes in various sizes
  • Modelling paints (acrylic, enamel or automotive lacquers)
  • Clear coat for finishing the body
  • A wash to bring out the detail

About the car – Nissan Skyline RS Turbo (DR30):

The Nissan Skyline RS Turbo of the DR30 series is a sporting version of the Skyline from the first half of the 1980s. The car was powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and its distinctive, stark front end earned it the nickname “iron mask” among fans.

In racing form, prepared for Group A competition, the Skyline RS Turbo enjoyed success in the Japanese touring car series. In the 1986 season the NISMO team car numbered 23 took the championship title.

The Hasegawa model allows this very winning car to be reproduced.

About the manufacturer – Hasegawa:

Hasegawa is a Japanese manufacturer of model kits based in Shizuoka, a region regarded as the centre of the Japanese model industry. The company has operated since 1941; it began with wooden products and from the 1960s focused on plastic models. Alongside its extensive aircraft range, the brand develops a large 1:24 car series covering motoring classics, sports cars and rally and racing machines. Hasegawa models are valued for their accurate shapes, finely reproduced panel lines and good parts fit. The manufacturer regularly releases limited editions of established moulds with new decal sheets and additional parts that reproduce specific versions and liveries. This lets modellers build many variants of the same car. Hasegawa remains one of the most recognisable model brands in the world and is available in many countries.
