Description

Plastic model kit of the Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE92 GT-Z (late model, 1989) car in 1:24 scale

Hasegawa HC69 (catalogue number 21169) is a kit for self-assembly representing the Japanese Toyota Sprinter Trueno sports car in its AE92 form, in the top GT-Z version from 1989 (late model). The Sprinter Trueno was the twin model of the Corolla Levin and a continuation of Toyota's line of compact coupes.

The GT-Z version was powered by a supercharged engine. The model offers many assembly options: an optional moonroof, a choice of aluminium or steel wheels and opening, pop-up headlights.

What's in the box:

  • Plastic sprues with body and interior parts
  • Clear parts (windows, lenses)
  • Optional moonroof and a choice of aluminium and steel wheels
  • Parts for the opening pop-up headlights
  • Chrome-plated parts
  • Rubber tyres
  • Window masks
  • Waterslide decal sheet (model markings, plates)
  • Illustrated assembly instructions

Specifications:

  • Scale: 1:24
  • Catalogue number: HC69 (21169)
  • Manufacturer: Hasegawa
  • Assembled length: approx. 178 mm
  • Difficulty level: intermediate

Note: The kit does not include glue, paints or modelling tools. The model is intended for self-assembly.

Assembly:

The model is recommended for modellers with some experience. It is worth deciding on the build variant at the outset – including whether to use the moonroof and which wheels to fit. The pop-up headlight mechanism calls for careful fitting. The interior is best painted before the body is closed.

The body colour can be chosen freely or as suggested in the instructions. Factory chrome-plated parts (mirrors, wheels) can be left in their original finish or airbrushed with dedicated chrome-like paints. The body is usually finished with a clear coat for gloss, and decals are best applied over a glossy surface to avoid decal silvering.

Tools required:

  • Modelling nippers for removing parts from the sprues
  • Modelling knife or scalpel
  • Files and sandpaper for cleaning up sprue-gate marks
  • Plastic cement
  • Brushes in various sizes
  • Modelling paints (acrylic or enamel)
  • Clear coat for finishing the body
  • A wash to bring out the detail

About the car – Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE92:
