Description
1:48 scale plastic model kit – Dornier Do 217M-1 German WWII bomber
The ICM 48274 kit recreates the Dornier Do 217M-1, developed in 1943 as an alternative to the K-1 version due to shortages of BMW 801D engines. Instead, the aircraft was powered by two Daimler-Benz DB 603A engines rated at 1,750 hp each with four-blade propellers, boosting its top speed to 557 km/h. Although range was slightly reduced, the M-1 maintained the same bomb load and defensive armament as the Do 217K.
Model specifications:
- Scale: 1:48
- Model length: approx. 34.3 cm
- Wingspan: approx. 37.6 cm
- Manufacturer: ICM
- Difficulty: intermediate
Note: Glue, paints and tools are not included. This is an unassembled plastic kit.
Box contents:
- Injection-moulded plastic parts for the Do 217M-1

- Paints in standard Luftwaffe camouflage colours (1943–45)
About the Dornier Do 217M-1:
The M-1 variant emerged as a result of engine shortages: DB 603 powerplants replaced the unavailable BMW 801Ds. This upgrade improved performance, with a top speed of 557 km/h, but at the cost of reduced range. Produced in parallel with the Do 217K-1, the M-1 remained in Luftwaffe bomber and reconnaissance units until the end of WWII.
Original aircraft data:
- Length: 17.70 m
- Wingspan: 19.00 m
- Powerplant: 2 × Daimler-Benz DB 603A (1,750 hp each)
- Max speed: 557 km/h
- Service ceiling: ~8,300 m
- Crew: 4
- Armament: MG 81 machine guns, MG 151 cannons, bomb load up to 4,000 kg
