About the M8A1 mat:
M8A1 landing mats were widely employed by US Army engineering units during the Vietnam War. Their corrugated, perforated surface effectively drained rainwater and supported operations of helicopters, light attack aircraft, and reconnaissance planes. Flexible deployment made them a key asset in forward airfield construction.
