Analog or digital control – what to choose?

The main advantage of digital systems is the ability to independently control multiple locomotives on the same track. In analog mode, all locomotives respond simultaneously to voltage changes on the rails. Separate control in analog requires isolated track sections and multiple power sources, which can be complex and space-consuming.

Digital control maintains constant voltage in the rails and sends commands to individual locomotives, allowing flexible and realistic operation even in compact layouts.

About the EU47 “Hetman” locomotive:

The EU47 designation refers to a class of electric passenger locomotives based on the Bombardier TRAXX P160 DC platform, acquired by Koleje Mazowieckie in 2011. The "Hetman" unit is part of a fleet serving modern regional rail services across the Mazovian Voivodeship. With a top speed of 160 km/h and power output of up to 5600 kW, the EU47 is a powerful, efficient, and reliable locomotive for push-pull passenger operations.

These locomotives operate on key routes between Warsaw and cities such as Działdowo, Skierniewice, and Radom. They feature modern electronics, energy-efficient systems, and dynamic braking, and some are named after historical figures including "Hetman", "Copernicus", and "Sienkiewicz".

As symbols of modern regional rail in Poland, the EU47 units combine state-of-the-art performance with local identity, playing a vital role in providing fast, safe, and comfortable travel for daily commuters and long-distance passengers alike.
