Description

Model of the G 1206 diesel locomotive in Vossloh Leasing livery

A ready-to-run model of the four-axle G 1206 diesel locomotive in Vossloh Leasing livery from Era VI, produced by PIKO in TT scale as a 2026 novelty. The locomotive is reproduced as a modern shunting and line vehicle, ideal for contemporary Era VI layouts.

The model stands out with its detailed reproduction of the G 1206 silhouette and LED lighting that changes with the direction of travel (white / red). Two wheels with traction tyres assist haulage, while TT close couplers ensure prototypical spacing between vehicles. The locomotive is supplied in an analogue version, without a decoder, with a 6-pin decoder interface (NEM 651) prepared for quick digitalisation.

Model technical data:

  • Scale: TT (1:120)
  • Item number: 47232
  • Manufacturer: PIKO
  • Operator: Vossloh Leasing
  • Era: VI (from 2006)
  • Model length: 123 mm
  • Power supply: direct current DC
  • Decoder interface: NEM 651 (6-pin; analogue model, without decoder)
  • Drive: two wheels with traction tyres
  • Coupler: TT close coupler with guide mechanism
  • LED lighting: white and red lights changing with the direction of travel
  • Minimum radius: 310 mm
  • The model is painted and ready to run
  • Recommended age: 14 years and over

Note: a DC analogue power pack and a powered track are required to run the model.

The model is not a starter set and does not include track or a controller. As delivered it runs on a conventional analogue layout powered by direct current (DC) and has no decoder installed. Thanks to its NEM 651 (6-pin) interface the model is prepared for digitalisation – simply fit a decoder to control it via DCC.

Model railways – digital or analogue control?

The DCC digital control system allows several vehicles to run independently on the same track. Each vehicle receives individual commands at a constant track voltage, enabling a realistic representation of movement and separate control of the lights and sound effects of each model. In an analogue system all vehicles on a given circuit are controlled simultaneously by changing the supply voltage. The PIKO 47232 model is supplied in an analogue version (without a decoder), but thanks to its decoder interface it can be converted to digital control at any time.

About the Vossloh G 1206 locomotive:

The G 1206 is a four-axle diesel-hydraulic shunting and line locomotive built at the MaK / Vossloh works in Kiel. The design was created in the mid-1990s, and the G 1206 version was produced from 1997 to 2016. It is one of the most popular modern medium-power diesel locomotives in Europe, operated by many private freight carriers and leasing companies – including Vossloh's own leasing fleet.

The B'B' locomotive develops around 1,500 kW (up to 1,570 kW in selected versions), with power transmitted through a Voith hydraulic transmission. The machine is equally at home in shunting work and in hauling freight trains on the main line. The model reproduces an example in Vossloh Leasing livery from Era VI.

Original technical data (Vossloh G 1206):

  • Manufacturer: MaK / Vossloh, Kiel
  • Production years: 1997–2016
  • Wheel arrangement: B'B' (four driving axles in two bogies)
  • Power: approx. 1,500 kW (up to 1,570 kW in MTU-engined versions)
  • Transmission: Voith hydraulic
  • Service weight: approx. 80–90 t
  • Maximum speed: up to 100 km/h (depending on transmission)
  • Purpose: shunting work and hauling freight trains
