This H0-scale model reproduces the Type Y passenger coach in the 1st/2nd class version of the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) in a livery characteristic of Era IV. It is a modern, standardised UIC-Y compartment coach combining 1st and 2nd class compartments, which for years formed the backbone of Czechoslovak long-distance traffic.

About the vehicle – Type Y coaches (UIC-Y):

Type Y coaches belong to the family of standardised UIC-Y passenger cars, developed in the 1960s and produced mostly by the Waggonbau Bautzen works (hence the colloquial name “Bautzen coaches”). They were compartment coaches about 24.5 m long over buffers, intended for express and long-distance service. A characteristic feature of the Type Y is the tapering of the car body at the ends.

Coaches of this family were delivered to numerous railways in Central and Eastern Europe. The Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) alone received around 2370 UIC-Y cars from Bautzen in many variants – passenger, sleeping, dining, baggage and post/baggage cars. For decades these vehicles formed the backbone of Czechoslovak long-distance traffic, and modernised examples are still operated today by the successors of the ČSD – the Czech and Slovak railways.
