Description

3D-printed workable track links for M50/M51 Super Sherman models in 1:35 scale

Rye Field Model 3036 is a set of 3D-printed workable track links intended for models of the Israeli M50/M51 Super Sherman tanks in 1:35 scale. The set allows the base model's tracks to be replaced with a rendering of higher detail resolution and with the ability to reproduce the natural sag of the track run.

The set does not include a model – it is a complement for modellers building a Super Sherman who want to raise the level of detail of the running gear. 3D printing provides sharp edges and an accurate rendering of the link structure, difficult to achieve with injection moulding.

What's in the box:

  • A complete set of 3D-printed workable track links (for both runs)
  • Illustrated assembly instructions

Kit specifications:

  • Scale: 1:35
  • Catalogue number: 3036
  • Manufacturer: Rye Field Model
  • Dedicated model: M50/M51 Super Sherman models in 1:35 scale
  • Type: workable track links
  • Material/technology: 3D printing

3D-printed workable tracks – a precise running gear

3D-printed tracks combine high detail resolution with the ability to assemble a workable run. The links are assembled one by one, which makes it possible to faithfully reproduce the natural sag of the track over the road wheels and return rollers – an effect particularly valued on a displayed model. The parts are best separated from their supports with a sharp tool and joined with cyanoacrylate glue. Link-by-link assembly takes patience but translates into a realistic final result.

About the vehicle – M50/M51 Super Sherman:

The M50 and M51, known as the Super Sherman, are Israeli modernisations of the American M4 Sherman tank, developed in the 1950s to extend the combat usefulness of these vehicles against more modern designs. The modernisation chiefly involved replacing the main armament and, in the case of the M51, also the powerplant.

The M50 received a French 75 mm gun, and the M51 a shortened 105 mm gun, significantly increasing firepower compared with the original Sherman. These tanks were used by Israeli armoured forces in the conflicts of the 1960s and 1970s, where, despite the age of the base design, they played an important role thanks to the upgraded armament and the training of their crews.

Original vehicle specifications (M51 Super Sherman):

  • Base hull: M4 Sherman with HVSS suspension
  • Main armament (M51): 105 mm gun
  • Main armament (M50): 75 mm gun
  • Powerplant (M51): diesel engine
  • Combat weight: approx. 39 t
  • Crew: 5
  • Service: Israeli armoured forces, 1950s–1970s

About the manufacturer – Rye Field Model:
