Description

Plastic workable track links for JS-2 / JS-3 / JSU-122 / JSU-152 models in 1:35 scale

Rye Field Model 3039 is a set of plastic workable track links intended for models of Soviet vehicles on the JS heavy-tank family chassis – the JS-2 and JS-3 tanks and the JSU-122 and JSU-152 heavy self-propelled guns – in 1:35 scale. The set reproduces a workable track run with natural sag over the running gear.

The set does not include a model – it is a running-gear complement for the vehicles listed. The plastic material allows the links to be assembled with classic modelling methods, using plastic cement where needed.

What's in the box:

  • A complete set of plastic workable track links (for both runs)
  • Illustrated assembly instructions

Kit specifications:

  • Scale: 1:35
  • Catalogue number: 3039
  • Manufacturer: Rye Field Model
  • Dedicated models: JS-2 / JS-3 / JSU-122 / JSU-152 in 1:35 scale
  • Type: workable track links
  • Material/technology: plastic (injection-moulded)

Plastic workable tracks – a realistic running gear

The plastic workable links are assembled one by one to recreate a movable track run. This makes it possible to lay the track faithfully with natural sag over the road wheels and return rollers, enhancing the model's display qualities. Where the construction requires it, the links are joined with plastic cement. Link-by-link assembly takes a little patience but gives a realistic final result and freedom in arranging the run.

About the vehicles – the JS family (JS-2, JS-3, JSU-122, JSU-152):

The JS-2 and JS-3 heavy tanks and the JSU-122 and JSU-152 heavy self-propelled guns built on their chassis were among the most powerful Soviet armoured vehicles of the late period of World War II. They shared a common chassis base, which is reflected in their use of the same type of track.

The JS-2 was armed with a 122 mm gun and used to break through enemy defences, while the JS-3 introduced a redesigned, heavily sloped hull and turret armour. The JSU-122 and JSU-152 self-propelled guns carried a 122 mm gun and a 152 mm gun-howitzer respectively in a fixed, well-armoured casemate, serving as tank destroyers and fire-support vehicles.

Original vehicle specifications (JS-2, representative of the family):

  • Combat weight: approx. 46 t
  • Crew: 4 (JS-2)
  • Main armament JS-2: 122 mm D-25T gun
  • Armament JSU-122: 122 mm gun; JSU-152: 152 mm gun-howitzer
  • Powerplant: diesel engine of approx. 520 hp
  • Maximum speed: approx. 37 km/h
  • Armour: up to approx. 120 mm at the front (JS-2)
