Description

Plastic model kit of the C-123B/K Provider aircraft in 1:144 scale

Sova 14024 is a self-assembly kit reproducing the American Fairchild C-123 Provider tactical transport aircraft. The kit allows you to build the C-123B version or the later C-123K, boosted by two additional jet engines under the wings.

The model is produced using short-run injection technology. The kit includes clear parts reproducing the cabin glazing.

What's in the box:

  • Plastic sprues with the airframe parts
  • Clear parts (cabin glazing)
  • Waterslide decal sheet
  • Illustrated assembly instructions

Model specifications:

  • Scale: 1:144
  • Catalogue number: 14024
  • Manufacturer: Sova
  • Assembled length: approx. 161 mm, wingspan: approx. 233 mm
  • Difficulty level: intermediate

Note: This kit does not include glue, paint or modelling tools. The model is intended for self-assembly.

Building the model:

This short-run kit is aimed at modellers with some experience — the parts require clean-up of sprue-gate marks and careful test-fitting. Before assembly it is worth deciding between the B and K versions, as they differ in powerplant parts. It is worth masking the cabin glazing before painting.

Aircraft used in Vietnam most often wore military camouflage. The exact scheme depends on the chosen option in the instructions. The decals are best applied over a gloss coat, and the finish sealed with a satin varnish.

Required tools:

  • Modelling nippers for removing parts from the sprues
  • Hobby knife or scalpel
  • Files and sanding paper for cleaning up sprue-gate marks
  • Plastic cement (e.g. Tamiya Extra Thin Cement)
  • Brushes in various sizes
  • Modelling paints (acrylic or enamel)
  • Modelling wash to emphasise details and recesses

About the aircraft – C-123 Provider:

The Fairchild C-123 Provider is an American tactical transport aircraft developed from post-war assault gliders. Its high-wing design with a rear loading ramp was adapted to operate from short, improvised airstrips.

The aircraft was used intensively during the Vietnam War for troop and supply transport, medical evacuation and special missions. The C-123K version received two additional jet engines under the wings, improving performance on take-off from short strips and in hot climates.

Original specifications (C-123 Provider):

  • Length: 23.24 m
  • Wingspan: 33.53 m
  • Powerplant: two piston engines (C-123K adds two jet engines)
  • Layout: high-wing with a rear loading ramp
  • Role: tactical transport
  • Crew: 2–4

About the manufacturer – Sova:

Sova-M is a manufacturer of plastic model kits specialising in 1:144 scale and in aviation subjects rarely offered by other makers. The company reproduces both classic military aircraft and less common export or carrier-borne versions, using short-run injection technology. Sova-M kits are valued by modellers building small-scale collections who look for unusual aircraft unavailable in the larger catalogues. Because of the nature of the tooling, the models are aimed primarily at modellers with some experience.
