Plastic model kit of the An-12BKTs “Cyclone” research aircraft
The Sova 72080 kit builds a detailed replica of the Soviet An-12 transport aircraft in the rare BKTs “Cyclone” research version. This specialized variant was used for atmospheric and meteorological testing. In 1:72 scale, the model impresses with its large size and the faithfully reproduced details unique to this modification.
The kit includes:
- over 290 plastic parts on 11 base sprues plus 2 new sprues for the “Cyclone” version
- decals for several painting options
- window masks
- assembly instructions

Note: Glue, paints and modeling tools are not included. The kit is intended for self-assembly.
Building process:
The construction requires precision and patience. Due to the large number of parts and the model’s size, it is recommended for modelers with some prior experience.
Recommended tools:
- Model knife or sprue cutters
- Files and sanding paper
- Brushes of various sizes
- Plastic cement
- Acrylic paints (typical Soviet aircraft colors)
- Cyanoacrylate glue for resin or metal parts (optional)
About the An-12BKTs “Cyclone”:
The An-12 was the standard Soviet transport aircraft designed by Antonov, in service since the late 1950s. The BKTs “Cyclone” was a specialized version equipped with research instruments for meteorological and atmospheric testing. Modified aircraft served as airborne laboratories within the USSR, supporting scientific research and system development.
