Porsche 934 Jägermeister racing car plastic model kit in 1:12 scale

Vivid Jägermeister orange over the wide, squat body of the Porsche 934 — this is one of those liveries you recognise instantly. Tamiya 12055 reproduces the Group 4 car in 1:12 scale, in the 2019 release enhanced with new slick tyres and photo-etched parts.

The mould dates from 1976. The kit allows the car to be built in one of two race entries run by the Max Moritz team in the 1976 world championship: #24 or #35.

The model features opening left and right doors as well as front and rear lids, keeping the interior with its reproduced roll cage and the turbocharged flat-six engine with its plumbing on view. The suspension on metal springs is movable and the steering wheel turns the front wheels.

Assembly:

The turbocharged flat-six and the caged interior stay visible once the lids and doors are opened, so it is worth painting and finishing these sub-assemblies before the bodywork is closed up. The engine plumbing is best added at the end of that stage, using precision tweezers. Cyanoacrylate glue is recommended for the photo-etched parts, particularly the tiny lid catches.

The Jägermeister livery is based on a vivid orange, which covers best over a light primer, sprayed in thin coats. Applying the Cartograf decals over a gloss coat limits decal silvering, after which a further clear coat protects them. The instructions provide Tamiya paint codes for both marking options.

The Porsche 934 was a Group 4 racing car derived from the road-going 930 Turbo. It was powered by a turbocharged 2993 cc flat-six producing 485 hp. Its wide body, extensive cooling system and roll cage set it apart from the road version.

During the 1976 world championship, 934s were run by customer teams across Europe. The Max Moritz squad raced in the colours of its sponsor Jägermeister and finished 4th in the 1976 manufacturers' standings.
