The bright green of Vaillant, the German heating equipment manufacturer, made the Kremer Racing Porsche 935 recognisable from a distance. Tamiya 20071 reproduces that car — the Kremer Porsche 935 K2 — in 1:20 scale. The kit uses 1978 tooling, and the 2023 release comes with new slick tyres, new decals printed by Cartograf and new instructions.

The model lets you display the drivetrain: the removable engine cover reveals the reproduced turbocharged flat-six. The wheels rotate, and the decal sheet covers two race entries — from the 1977 DRM series and from the Nürburgring 1000 km.

Assembly:

The kit is approachable for beginners: the parts fit well and the new instructions guide the build step by step. It is worth painting the engine before closing up the rear of the body — thanks to the removable engine cover it stays visible on the finished model. The chrome-plated parts can be left as supplied, with careful cutting and clean-up of the attachment points; modellers who work with an airbrush often paint them with chrome-effect paints (e.g. Alclad, AK Xtreme Metal). Both routes are equally valid.

Paint codes for the bright green Vaillant livery are given in the instructions. Much of the car’s appearance depends on the decals — applying them over a gloss coat is recommended, as it reduces the risk of decal silvering, followed by a gloss varnish, the usual finish for racing car bodywork.

About the car – Kremer Porsche 935 K2:

The Porsche 935 was a Group 5 car derived from the 911 Turbo and powered by a turbocharged flat-six. Alongside the works team, privateer squads competed in the championship and developed their own versions of the car.

Cologne-based Kremer Racing, run by brothers Erwin and Manfred Kremer, rebuilt a customer Porsche 935 to K2 specification. The team was sponsored by Vaillant, the German heating equipment manufacturer, whose bright green colours became the car’s hallmark. Bob Wollek was among its drivers, and the 1977 season brought the team success — in the DRM series and at the Nürburgring 1000 km, where Wollek shared the car with John Fitzpatrick.
