Quick Gen Plague Yellow is an acrylic contrast paint developed by AK Interactive to dramatically reduce the time required to paint miniatures while maintaining a high-quality finish. Its advanced formula allows the paint to flow naturally across the surface, creating shadows, mid-tones and highlights with a single coat.

The Plague Yellow color is a muted, dirty yellow with a distinct greenish hue, evoking decay, sickness and contamination. It is ideal for painting infected characters, mutants, demons, cultists and elements associated with plague, toxins and alchemy. The paint naturally pools in recesses, creating unsettling darker shadows, while raised areas remain lighter, enhancing the diseased and uneven appearance of the surface.

Quick Gen paints – fast contrast painting

Quick Gen paints represent AK Interactive’s most advanced range designed specifically for contrast painting techniques. Their behavior is based on controlled pigment distribution: thicker layers settle in recesses and cavities, while thinner layers remain on raised details.

This variation in pigment density produces natural tonal transitions that simulate light and shadow without additional painting steps. As a result, traditional stages such as base coating, shading and highlighting can be combined into a single, efficient process after priming.

Quick Gen paints perform best over a white primer, which allows the full range of contrast and depth to be appreciated. However, they can also be applied over black, grey or colored primers to achieve subtler shading, lining effects or soft glazes.

Each Quick Gen paint bottle features a coverage level indicator on the label (low, medium or high), helping painters select the right color depending on the desired intensity and effect. Coverage depends on the pigment type and concentration used in the formulation.

The specially formulated medium ensures smooth brush control, improved surface tension and an even finish without tide marks or staining. Quick Gen paints can be mixed together to create new tones.

When thinning Quick Gen paints, it is recommended to use the dedicated AK Interactive 17001 medium. It allows for reduced color intensity or smoother transitions while fully preserving the paint’s contrast properties. The medium improves flow, maintains controlled pigment behavior and helps prevent staining or uneven marks, which is essential when working with contrast-style paints.

They can be used on their own or combined with traditional acrylic paints. Painters may apply Quick Gen over previously painted surfaces to enrich shadows and color depth, or enhance Quick Gen bases with classic acrylic highlights and details.
