Hazel Brown works very well for lightly defining wood grain, stitching, and folds on light leather. On miniature bases featuring light-colored earth, sand, or warm-toned stones, it helps unify the scene without creating overly strong contrast.

Applied carefully over very bright golds, this light brown wash can add gentle aging and shading, enhancing details while preserving the metallic shine.

Acrylic washes vs oil washes

Acrylic and oil washes differ mainly in working time, handling characteristics, and workflow. AK Interactive acrylic washes are water-based, odorless, and ready to use without solvent-based thinners. They dry noticeably faster than oil washes, allowing quicker progression to subsequent painting stages.

This faster drying time is both a defining feature and a limitation: acrylic washes require more deliberate application, as the window for extended corrections and blending is shorter. They are therefore well suited to controlled, layered workflows.

Oil washes offer a significantly longer working time, making it possible to repeatedly adjust, blend, and soften effects over an extended period. This provides great flexibility when shaping shadows, but requires the use of appropriate thinners and longer drying times before continuing work.

How to use:
