This Real Colors paint set contains six camouflage colors that were used to paint German aircraft produced from around late summer 1944 until the end of the war. It includes two versions of the RLM 76 underside color (including the green-blue variety seen on aircraft such as the Fw 190 D-9 and Bf 109 K-4), two versions of the RLM 81 upper surface color (one khaki shade and one dark green, the latter misidentified in the past as RLM 83), which were reproduced based on officially approved formulas used depending on the available supply of components from a given paint manufacturer, and the top surface color of RLM 82 (three formulas have also been approved for this color, but they yield very similar shades of green). Also included is the interior color of RLM 66 based on the variant shown in the color table included in the regulatory edition of L.Dv. 521/1. Necessary for painting models of such aircraft as the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 D, Heinkel He 162, Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-10/K-4 and Me 262 or Arado Ar 234 B/C
The set includes 6 paints of the following colors:
- RC938 Rlm 66 (1941)
- RC944 Rlm 76 Version 2
- RC945 Rlm 76 Late War Variation
- RC949 Rlm 81 Ver.2 (Incorrectly Called Rlm 83)
- RC950 Rlm 81 Version 3
- RC951 Rlm 82
Real Colors series paints are acrylic paints based on organic solvents.
They are characterized by a moderately intense odor. They are designed for painting with an airbrush. For painting with a brush they are rather unsuitable and for modelers without airbrush we recommend AK paints from the 3 Gen series.
The palette includes primary colors, colors for civilian cars, clearcoats and colors dedicated to painting model aircraft and military vehicles. The paint colors were prepared by modeling and military experts. They faithfully reproduce the paints used on original vehicles and aircraft. The effect of scale was also taken into account, which causes that the shade of paint on the plastic model should be a little lighter than on the real object. With their composition and properties, they are most similar to Mr. Hobby C-series, Hataka orange series or Tamiya LP series paints, but have a less intense smell.
AK Real Colors paints can be divided into three color groups:
- Standard colors - these are the basic shades that are most commonly used in all varieties of modeling. The palette also includes transparent colors and clearcoats.
- Colors for civilian vehicles - a new range of colors has been developed for painting model cars and motorcycles. It features the most popular colors used by iconic manufacturers such as Renault, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Lotus, Subaru, Ducati, Kawasaki, etc., along with a range of standard colors suitable for interiors and details.
- Colors for aircraft and military vehicles - the range of military colors includes colors for both aircraft and vehicles from the 1930s to the present day. Many of the colors correspond to RAL, Federal Standard or British Standard , while others are based on color samples from the era or reproduced from original formulas.
Real Color paints work well with an airbrush.
They do not clog it and lay down a very thin layer. Airbrush paint should be diluted with the appropriate thinner. The minimum dilution is one part thinner per paint, but we recommend diluting the paint more, such as two parts thinner per paint. Proper dilution makes airbrush painting easier and ensures better quality of the painted surface.
For thinning AK Real Colors paints, we recommend the original thinner from AK Interactive: AK701
You can also use Mr. Hobby thinners i.e. Mr. Color Thinner or Mr. Leveling Thinner or "orange" thinner from Hataka XP03. Paints should not be thinned with water or thinners for typical acrylic paints.
