Turned metal barrels – a quick upgrade for your model

Replacing plastic barrels with turned metal parts is one of the simplest ways to raise the realism of a warship model. Metal barrels have a perfectly round cross-section and crisp, thin muzzles that are hard to reproduce in injection-moulded plastic.

For assembly we suggest cyanoacrylate glue, which bonds metal to plastic well. It is worth cleaning and degreasing the parts before fitting.

About the gun – 40 mm Bofors Mk.1:

The 40 mm Bofors anti-aircraft gun was one of the most effective naval short- and medium-range AA weapons of the Second World War. In the American Mk.1 version it was mounted in twin and quadruple mounts on almost all classes of US Navy ships. This weapon played a key role in defending American task forces in the Pacific.

Technical data of the original:

  • Calibre: 40 mm
  • Designation: Bofors Mk.1
  • Role: short/medium-range anti-aircraft gun
  • User: US Navy
