Turned metal barrels – a quick model upgrade

Replacing the plastic barrels from the base kit with turned metal barrels is one of the simplest ways to raise the realism of a ship model. Metal barrels have even walls, crisp muzzles and correct proportions that are hard to achieve with injection-moulded parts. For assembly we suggest using cyanoacrylate glue, which provides a durable bond between metal and plastic.

About the ship – Littorio class (Roma, Littorio, Vittorio Veneto):

Littorio, Vittorio Veneto and Roma were Italian battleships of the Littorio class, the most modern units of the Regia Marina during World War II. The main armament consisted of nine 381 mm guns in three triple turrets.

Roma was sunk in 1943 by a German Fritz X guided bomb. Ships of this class took part in operations in the Mediterranean Sea.

Technical data of the original:

  • Type: battleship (Littorio class)
  • Main armament: 9 x 381 mm guns
  • Secondary artillery: 152 mm guns
  • Anti-aircraft artillery: 90 mm guns
  • Navy: Regia Marina
