The Dragon 3588 kit represents the American M727 tracked vehicle equipped with a triple launcher for the MIM-23 Hawk surface-to-air missile system. Introduced in the 1960s, the Hawk became NATO’s primary medium-range air defense weapon during the Cold War. The M727, based on the M548 carrier (a derivative of the M113), provided mobility and rapid deployment capability for the launcher.

The MIM-23 Hawk was the US Army’s first medium-range radar-guided surface-to-air missile, capable of engaging targets at ranges up to 40 km and altitudes of 18 km. The tracked M727 carrier based on the M548 chassis carried and operated a triple missile launcher, combining mobility with powerful air defense. The Hawk system remained in service for decades, used by the US and NATO allies until the 1990s and deployed in Middle Eastern conflicts.
