Eduard CX009 mask set – canopy painting masks for the C-47/AC-47 Gunship model (Italeri) in 1:72 scale

Eduard CX009 is a set of self-adhesive 1:72 masks for painting the canopy framing and other glazing, and the wheel hubs, tailored to the C-47/AC-47 Gunship model from Italeri. The masks are die-cut from yellow Kabuki masking paper, giving sharp edges without hand masking with tape. The base kit is not included.

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Douglas C-47 Skytrain:

The C-47 Skytrain was the military version of the Douglas DC-3 airliner, entering service in 1941. The all-metal low-wing aircraft was powered by two Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasp radial engines. It carried troops, cargo and casualties, towed gliders and dropped paratroopers. During the Second World War it became one of the principal Allied transport aircraft, used among others in the Normandy landings and at Arnhem.

More than 10,000 examples were built in numerous variants, and many served for decades after the war. The armed AC-47 was developed in the 1960s as a gunship, fitted with three 7.62 mm six-barrel miniguns firing through the left side of the fuselage. It was employed mainly during the Vietnam War for the night defence of ground outposts.
