Eduard CX492 is a set of self-adhesive 1:72 masks for painting the canopy framing and other glazing, and the wheel hubs, tailored to the P1Y Ginga (Frances) model from Hasegawa. The masks are die-cut from yellow Kabuki masking paper, giving sharp edges without hand masking with tape. The base kit is not included.

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Yokosuka P1Y Ginga (Frances) — Japanese twin-engine land-based bomber:

The Yokosuka P1Y Ginga was a twin-engine land-based bomber of the Imperial Japanese Navy, developed in the early 1940s as a fast aircraft capable of level bombing, dive bombing and torpedo attack. The Allies assigned it the reporting name Frances. It entered service in 1944, and its slim fuselage and powerful engines gave it high speed for a bomber of its class.

Power came from Nakajima Homare engines, which proved troublesome to operate and maintain. Bomber, torpedo and P1Y2-S Kyokko night-fighter variants were produced. Late in the war some aircraft were used for kamikaze attacks. About 1,100 were built, serving mainly over the Pacific and in the defence of the home islands.
