Description

Eduard EX1127 mask set – canopy painting masks for the Fairey Barracuda model (Trumpeter) in 1:48 scale

Eduard EX1127 is a set of self-adhesive 1:48 masks for painting the canopy framing and other glazing, and the wheel hubs, tailored to the Fairey Barracuda model from Trumpeter. The masks are die-cut from yellow Kabuki masking paper, giving sharp edges without hand masking with tape. The base kit is not included. The TFace version includes masks for both the exterior and interior of the glazing.

What's in the box:

  • Sheet of self-adhesive masks made of yellow Kabuki masking paper in the TFace version – separate masks for the exterior and interior of the glazing, plus wheel hub masks
  • Mask placement instructions

Set specifications:

  • Scale: 1:48
  • Catalogue number: EX1127
  • Manufacturer: Eduard
  • Dedicated kit: Fairey Barracuda from Trumpeter
  • Accessory type: canopy painting masks (TFace version)
  • Material: yellow Kabuki masking paper, machine-cut

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Fairey Barracuda:

The Fairey Barracuda is a British carrier-based torpedo, dive-bomber and reconnaissance aircraft of the Second World War, intended for the Royal Navy's air arm. It was an all-metal high-wing monoplane with a distinctive high-set tailplane and large Fairey-Youngman flaps, a crew of three and a single in-line engine. Its silhouette was regarded as unusual and not especially handsome.

The Barracuda replaced obsolete biplanes and entered service in 1943. The best-known action of these aircraft was the dive-bombing attack on the German battleship Tirpitz in 1944. The machines were used in the Atlantic, the Mediterranean and the Far East for strike and reconnaissance duties. Mainly the Mk II and Mk III versions were produced, differing among other things in radar equipment. More than 2,500 examples were built.

Original specifications (Fairey Barracuda):

  • Crew: 3
  • Length: 12.2 m
  • Wingspan: 14.5 m
  • Height: 4.6 m
  • Empty/take-off weight: 4,240 kg / 6,400 kg
  • Powerplant: 1 x Rolls-Royce Merlin 32 in-line, approx. 1,640 hp
  • Max speed: approx. 370 km/h
  • Ceiling: 5,100 m
  • Range: approx. 1,850 km
  • Armament: 2 x 7.7 mm machine guns (defensive); 1 x torpedo or up to approx. 730 kg of bombs
  • Production: over 2,500 (1942-1946)
