Eduard EX116 is a set of self-adhesive 1:48 masks for painting the canopy framing and other glazing, and the wheel hubs, tailored to the SB2U Vindicator model from Accurate Miniatures. The masks are die-cut from yellow Kabuki masking paper, giving sharp edges without hand masking with tape. The base kit is not included.

What's in the box:

  • Sheet of self-adhesive masks made of yellow Kabuki masking paper, die-cut for the canopy and other glazing and for the wheel hubs
  • Mask placement instructions

Set specifications:

  • Scale: 1:48
  • Catalogue number: EX116
  • Manufacturer: Eduard
  • Dedicated kit: SB2U Vindicator from Accurate Miniatures
  • Accessory type: canopy painting masks
  • Material: yellow Kabuki masking paper, machine-cut

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – USA:

The Vought SB2U Vindicator was a carrier-based dive bomber of the US Navy, a single-engine low-wing aircraft of mixed construction, with the rear fuselage fabric-covered. Fitted with an air-cooled radial engine and retractable landing gear, it was one of the first monoplane dive bombers in that service, replacing earlier biplanes.

Vindicators served from aircraft carriers and from Marine Corps land bases in the late 1930s and the early Pacific war. They took part in the Battle of Midway in 1942, where their performance already lagged behind newer designs. The export V-156 variant went to France and Britain. About 260 examples were built, quickly withdrawn from front-line service.

Original specifications (USA):

  • Length: 10.4 m
  • Wingspan: 12.8 m
  • Height: 3.1 m
  • Max. takeoff weight: approx. 4300 kg
  • Crew: 2
  • Powerplant: Pratt & Whitney R-1535-96 radial, approx. 825 hp
  • Max. speed: approx. 390 km/h
  • Ceiling: approx. 8400 m
  • Range: approx. 1800 km
  • Armament: 2 x 7.62 mm machine guns; up to approx. 450 kg of bombs
  • Production: 1937-1943, approx. 260 built (all variants)
